How Tim Gallaudet's claims fared when checked

Our assessment

The site's assessmentChecked 29 Sep 2026

A genuinely credentialed Navy oceanographer and former NOAA administrator whose rank and degrees are well documented, but his UAP claims are personal, uncorroborated testimony and disclosure advocacy, not oceanography-adjacent expert findings.

In full: US Congress holds 'Exposing the Truth' UFO hearing

During a 2015 predeployment naval exercise, Gallaudet received an internal Navy safety-of-flight email warning of multiple near mid-air collisions with unidentified objects, with the 'Go Fast' FLIR video attached; the email vanished from all recipients' accounts the next day and was never discussed again.

The very next day that email disappeared from my account and those of the other recipients without explanation.

Former DoD official Chris Mellon told Gallaudet, in the week of the hearing, that satellite imagery of UAP from a few years earlier still has not been shared with Congress.

Just this week I learned from former DOD official Chris Mellon that satellite imagery of UAP from a few years ago still has not been shared with Congress.

Earlier this year, AARO held what was billed as a 90-minute leadership meeting with Gallaudet that turned into an hours-long effort to convince him of the validity of AARO's historical-record report, question the validity of the Tic Tac incident (even suggesting it was American technology), and cast doubt on UAP whistleblowers.

What I thought would be a 90-minute meeting just to meet with leadership turned out to be an hours long influence operation on me.

Our check Matches Gallaudet's own sworn written and oral testimony to the November 13, 2024 House Oversight hearing almost verbatim: a meeting billed as a 90-minute leadership courtesy call with AARO's then-acting director turned into an hours-long session that Gallaudet characterized as an 'influence operation' attempting to convince him of the validity of AARO's historical-record report, to get him to question the Tic Tac incident (including floating that it might have been American technology), and to cast doubt on whistleblowers. This is a firsthand account from one participant and has not been independently corroborated from AARO's side beyond AARO's general public position (defending its report and characterizing some whistleblowers as caught in an 'insular echo chamber').

In the 1980s, on a nuclear ballistic-missile submarine, sonar detected an object matching the speed and closing rate of a Russian torpedo, which then slowed and followed the submarine in its wake for several minutes before rapidly exiting; nothing in known technology could replicate this, and it outpaced the submarine by orders of magnitude.

The object exhibited the characteristics of a Russian torpedo in terms of its speed of movement and closing rate with the submarine, and then it slowed and followed the submarine slowly in its wake.

During the 2015 exercise and its aftermath, Navy pilots -- friends of witness Ryan Graves -- experienced dozens of UAP encounters causing significant safety concerns, far beyond the single publicly released 'Go Fast' video that some debunkers dismiss as a balloon.

There are debunkers out there who have said the Go Fast video was just a balloon... there were dozens of these encounters that pilots, friends of Ryan Graves... witnessed.
