POGO received whistleblower tips and disclosures from over 800 individuals during the 2014 VA wait-time scandal, coordinating with Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, helping expose systemic delays that contributed to prolonged illness and hastened deaths.
We received tips and whistleblower disclosures from over 800 different individuals talking about the VA subjecting veterans to extensive wait times.
Our check POGO's sworn testimony to the Senate Appropriations MilCon-VA subcommittee (30 July 2015, S. Hrg. 114-609) says that after a joint press conference with Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, 'in a little over a month, nearly 800 current and former VA employees and veterans contacted us', from 35 states and DC; senators at that hearing referred to the 800 whistleblowers. 'Over 800' is within rounding of POGO's 'nearly 800' (the count may have grown after that first month). The link to prolonged illness and deaths comes from the wider 2014 wait-time scandal, not from POGO's tips alone.
