What was reported

Three young women said they saw a crouching creature with brown skin, large red eyes and bumps on its head near a wall; rumours followed of creatures captured by the army and police, a hospital transfer, a police officer's death from infection, and dead zoo animals. A 1997 military police inquiry concluded the women had seen a local man with a mental disability, nicknamed 'Mudinho', crouching in the rain, and that the vehicle movements were routine. The women said they knew him and rejected that. No contemporaneous recovery record, photograph or biological material has been produced.
