What was reported
At about 11:20 p.m., at least eleven people saw a low lit object descend into the water off Shag Harbour with a whistling sound and a bang; RCMP officers who arrived within minutes saw a light floating offshore, which then sank. Fishing boats and a Coast Guard cutter found only patches of yellowish foam, and Navy divers searched for three days without finding anything. Rescue Coordination Centre Halifax confirmed no aircraft were missing, and Canadian government files recorded it as a UFO report; earlier that evening an Air Canada crew and a fishing vessel's radar had reported lights in the region. There is no established identification.
