What was reported

Around 3 a.m. on 26 December 1980 a USAF security patrol at RAF Woodbridge saw lights descend into Rendlesham Forest and went in; Staff Sgt Jim Penniston later described touching a small triangular craft with symbols. Two nights later deputy base commander Lt Col Charles Halt led a party that recorded a tape of their search, took Geiger readings at three depressions, and watched flashing lights; his memo to the Ministry of Defence (dated January 1981) gives the dates one day late. The MoD judged it of no defence significance. Skeptics, notably Ian Ridpath, match the flashing light to the Orford Ness lighthouse, the first lights to a bright fireball and the later ones to stars, the depressions to rabbit diggings and the radiation to background; Penniston's claim of a telepathically received binary code appeared decades later.

What officials concluded

Fravor names the Rendlesham Forest (UK) incident as one of the most credible other UAP cases he is aware of, stating that US servicemen involved reportedly sustained radiation burns, one was medically disabled, and Senator John McCain's office helped get that person's disability status reinstated.

the u.s. guys that saw stuff and actually got radiation burns, one guy was medically disabled... john mccain's office helped get the guys disability reestablished
