What was reported
Timber worker Meng Zhaoguo said that he and a relative saw a shining white object come down on Phoenix Mountain and that, when workers went to investigate two days later, he was incapacitated by a beam of light. He went on to claim visits by a tall female entity, an abduction on 16 July and other contact events. A UFO enthusiasts' club at Wuhan University examined the story through 1997 and concluded that an initial sighting may have occurred but the later events were almost certainly untrue; astronomer Liu Yan judged it hallucination or fabrication. Other Chinese UFO groups supported Meng.
