What was reported
A story first circulated in 1996 through documents bearing Fascist-era letterheads holds that a bell-shaped craft crashed near Magenta in 1933, that Mussolini set up a secret 'Gabinetto RS/33' under Guglielmo Marconi to study it, and that US forces later took it. There is no trace of RS/33 in Italian state archives, no contemporaneous report, artifact or transfer record, and the documents are widely judged forgeries. David Grusch repeated the claim to Congress in 2023 as secondhand information from classified briefings, which is the only reason it reached the official record.
