What was reported

Around 6 pm two seven-year-old cousins said an orange object chased them, then landed in a vineyard, and that a wrinkled, faceless, chocolate-coloured occupant tapped one of them on the shoulder. A mother said she saw a silver object rotating in the sky and a father a fading light; a caretaker at the city environment centre also reported a light. A field investigation with the Yamanashi Nichinichi newspaper found three concrete vine-trellis posts knocked over and holes in the ground, and some media reported residual radioactivity measured by a local teacher. Critics noted the trees were undamaged and the claimed craft could not have fitted between the posts; one of the boys later said some people suspected a family invention.
