What was reported

From March 1983 through the summer of 1984 thousands of residents, including police officers, reported a huge silent V- or boomerang-shaped formation of coloured lights moving slowly over the lower Hudson Valley, with several nights producing hundreds of calls. Photographs and video of the lights were taken, and Philip Imbrogno and J. Allen Hynek collected the reports in the book Night Siege; Imbrogno's account of a 1984 hover over the Indian Point nuclear plant was disputed by the plant's security coordinator. State police and the plant's operator said the lights were Cessna-type light aircraft flying in tight formation out of Stormville Airport, and pilots involved were reported to be amused by the confusion. Some witnesses still insist the object was a single structured craft.

A 1987 photograph taken by a Connecticut police officer during the mid-1980s Hudson Valley/Connecticut UFO wave shows lighted objects along the edge of a larger, mostly dark craft.

This one was taken in 1987 in Connecticut... this was taken by a police officer.

During the mid-1980s Hudson Valley UFO wave, hundreds of witnesses, including roughly 13 police officers tracking the same object from different vantage points on one night, saw large triangular craft; officials offered dismissive or implausible explanations (planes in formation, helicopters) and no formal investigation was conducted.

There were like 13 different, you know, numerous police officers saw the same thing from different vantage points in the state.
