What was reported

FD-302 interview with a female range-operations employee (15 years at the facility) who had restricted the test range's airspace that morning. Driving through a gate that malfunctioned on three attempts before opening on the fourth, she looked up and saw a silent, hovering, slowly east-to-west moving cigar-shaped object, 'metallic bronze in color,' the length of two-to-three Blackhawk helicopters nose to tail, with an intensely bright diamond-white light on its eastern end. She watched it for 5-10 seconds before it disappeared with no contrail; a passenger in a second vehicle also saw it. She said she would not have reported it alone, and coworkers later made fun of her for the report; she had never seen anything like it in 15 years around military aircraft.

Why this rating A credentialed, experienced range-operations witness with 15 years of exposure to the relevant airspace's actual aircraft traffic describes a large, silent, detailed object with a specific comparative size reference (Blackhawk helicopters) and instant disappearance with no contrail; corroborated by a second, independent visual witness; still single-sensor (unaided visual only), so short of strong.

As described in the file

Witnesses
One primary FD-302 interviewee (15-year range-operations employee); one corroborating passenger in a second vehicle
Sensors
Visual
Shape
Cigar-shaped, metallic bronze
Size
Length of two to three Blackhawk helicopters nose to tail; width about 1.5 Blackhawks
Lights and colour
Intense diamond-white light with a surrounding ring, on the eastern end
Motion
Nearly hovering, moving slowly east to west, then disappeared
Duration
5-10 seconds
Altitude or range
500-3,000 feet above a tree line roughly one mile away
Effects
Completely silent; no interference with vehicle engine noted; a gate had opened only partially on three prior attempts that morning before opening fully on the fourth, though not explicitly linked to the object by the witness
