What was reported

At 7:55 pm residents saw a silent reddish sphere, about half the apparent size of the Moon, fly level, rise and fall several times over Height 611 and then strike the hill. Three days later a group led by ufologist Valery Dvuzhilny found a scorched patch of about 2 by 2 metres with a black film on the rocks and collected small metallic droplets, 'fine mesh', small spheres and glassy pieces, some of which went to laboratories including institutes of the Siberian branch of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Claims of anomalous composition come from the investigating ufologists; sceptics point to industrial slag in this mining town, a meteor or space debris. The site is locally marked as a presumed UFO crash site.

What officials concluded
