What was reported
Two men said that on 4 August 1990 they watched a large diamond-shaped object hover silently over moorland near Calvine for about ten minutes and took six photographs, which reached the Ministry of Defence through a newspaper. The negatives disappeared; the released MoD files (DEFE 24/1940/1, DEFE 31/180/1) hold only poor photocopies and show analysts treated it as a real object. In 2022 David Clarke traced a print kept for 32 years by a retired RAF press officer, Craig Lindsay, now at Sheffield Hallam University; analysis judged it a genuine photograph, not a composite. The photographers have never been confirmed, and explanations range from a reflection or a hanging model to a classified aircraft.
