What was reported
At 8:38 p.m. on 23 January 1974 residents around Llandrillo heard a loud bang and felt the ground shake, and people across north Wales and northern England reported a bright light in the sky; police searched the hillside. Ufologists later claimed a UFO crash and a cover-up, the so-called 'Roswelsh' incident. The Institute of Geological Sciences (now the British Geological Survey) recorded a magnitude 3.5 earthquake at that time and attributed the light to a bright meteor seen across the region at almost the same moment; Ministry of Defence papers released later contain nothing to support a crash.
What officials concluded
