What was reported
In the early hours of 2 January 1975 a sentry at the Spanish Air Force firing range in the Bardenas Reales saw an intense red light he first took for a vehicle; the duty sergeant and three soldiers then watched it stay still for minutes, rise some tens of metres, move between the range towers and leave at high speed to the northwest. The Third Air Region appointed a judge to investigate a reported landing, and the newspaper ABC noted 'contradictory versions' of the event. The Air Force file was among those declassified in the 1990s; it records five witnesses and reaches no identification.
