What was reported

From 11 July 2023 members of the indigenous Ikitu community said tall beings in dark suits, with yellowish eyes and lights on their heels, came at night, seemed immune to their hunting guns, floated and vanished, and that a teenage girl was cut on the neck; the community asked for troops and the story spread as an alien attack. Police and Navy personnel took statements. Loreto's environmental prosecutor Carlos Castro Quintanilla said the attacks were probably linked to illegal gold miners in the Nanay basin using high-tech equipment such as jetpacks to intimidate residents. Some locals read the attackers as 'pelacaras', the face-peelers of Amazonian folklore.
