What was reported
Four art students, Chuck Rak, Charlie Foltz and twins Jack and Jim Weiner, said that while night-fishing on a canoe trip they saw a bright object over the lake and signalled it with a flashlight; it sent a beam towards them and they found themselves back on shore with their large campfire burnt down, as though hours had passed. The detailed abduction and medical-examination account emerged years later, when investigator Raymond Fowler had the four men undergo regression hypnosis, and was published in his 1993 book The Allagash Abductions. In 2016 Chuck Rak said the abduction did not happen and that he had gone along with the story hoping to make money; the others maintain it.
